Yes, I'm aware the Hurricanes pulled away with amazing victories over Florida State and Oklahioma early in the season. Those are suppose to be good teams but in reality they pulled away with narrow victories against a 7-6 team and an 8-5 team (not that impressive). They finished the season 9-4, which numerically signifies an enormous step in the right direction for the program. But just how enormous was this step? Lets examine 2 of those 9 victories where they played Duke and Wake Forest.
Although upon looking at this score board it would appear Miami had this game under control, they were losing until deep in the 4th quarter. Your avid Miami koolaid cultists will tell you the sense of urgency didn't come on until then but against a team that has accumulated some 10 wins in 6 years, you shouldn't need to put your game face on. DUKE FINISHED 5-7
This game is undeniably troublesome for the Hurricanes. They we're completely owned by this team the entire game and couldn't stop Riley Skinner for the life of them. At the start of the 4th quarter they we're losing 14-27. Thank god Wake Forest's starting quarterback was injured on a play halting Wake's dismantling of the Hurricane defense and permitting a 28-27 victory. Miami gave the game ball to Ryan McManus, the walk-on backup QB for Wake. WAKE FINISHED 5-7
Was last season a step in the right direction? Of course it was, they did finish 9-4. Although everyone other than the avid fans can admit it was dreadfully close to a 7-6 season. The avid fans wont grant me the Duke argument (despite how mad they were watching that game live last year). They do have to give me Wake Forest though. Thats is undeniable. MIAMI SHOULD HAVE FINISHED 8-5. Pretty unremarkable. And yes, Miami, I already know the "but we didnt" argument. So save that breath.

You already mentioned Duke and Wake.
FSU - Beat them with a dropped pass in the end zone.
GT - 10 days to prepare for Triple Option
OK - Bradford knocked out the game before
That is a lot of luck on your side.
