As many of you may know, I'm an FSU fan - and despite last week's criminal neglect of the Seminoles in the rankings, this week should work out favorably. Bouts between 4 teams ranked ahead of us guarantee that we'll jump to 15th and another match is making 14th seem probable. Lets see if my betting stars have aligned this week as the Nole's have.
MY PICKS
MONEYLINE - North Carolina (UNC vs MIA) +185
Who knows why the Canes keep commanding such respect. They don't deserve it. Last year, they struggled against Duke and Wake Forest. This year looks like it'll be the same. I don't expect this team to get anything going against the Tar Heels defense and if they get as discouraged as they did in the FSU game, this one could be just as ugly as that one.
MONEYLINE - LSU (LSU vs AUB) +185
I raised an eyebrow at this projection as well. Statistically, LSU should put up more than Auburn. I tried to find a discrepancy that could explain this (such as LSU's schedule being easier that Auburn's schedule) but its the opposite. Up to this point, LSU has faced tougher competition. My suspicion is that Auburn love may be due to some cake defenses they've faced. Honestly, I won't blame anyone for staying away from this line. The SEC is as crooked as they come anyway.
MONEYLINE - Arizona State (ASU vs CAL) +145
Is it possible to find a more bipolar team than California? That fact alone is enough for me to bet on their underdog opponents all season. Furthermore, statistics favor the Sun Devils.
SPREAD - Hawaii (HAW vs WASH) -3.5 -110
Like I said, I didn't think it would be Washington that brought down USC. That's because Washington isn't a good team. I wouldn't even call them a decent team. Oregon State should have no problem with them. 32-28
SPREAD - Western Michigan (WMU vs AKR) -7.5 -110
Just put your money on Western Michigan. Like anyone knows a player on either of these teams. Statistically, this will be a blow out. At least 14 points.
SPREAD - Michigan State (MSU vs PUR) -6 -110
Purdue only gets 6 points in this game? That doesn't sound like nearly enough. I know MSU plays games pretty tight but this one shouldn't be close. There better be a very good team behind Purdue on the schedule, to suggest the Spartans are looking past them to set the spread at -6. If not, Payday!
